Watershed conditions

Ping River Basin  The Ping River is the 6th of 25 major river basins in Thailand. It originates in the Phi Pan Nam mountain range in Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province, flowing from north to south through Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces. It then traverses valleys before emptying into the Bhumibol Dam reservoir in Tak Province, joining the Wang River in Tak Province. It continues through Kamphaeng Phet Province before joining the Nan River at Pak Nam Pho in Nakhon Sawan Province. The river basin covers approximately 33,896 square kilometers, encompassing five provinces, with a length of approximately 740 kilometers. The topography is predominantly mountainous. Each year, the river is influenced by tropical depressions originating from the South China Sea. Heavy rainfall occurs from July to September, with peak rainfall in the basin from May to October.

Subbasin division

It is divided into two river basins:

Upper Ping River Basin The Mae Ping River is divided into 14 sub-basins: the Upper Mae Ping Basin, the Mae Ngat Basin, the Mae Taeng Basin, the Second Section of the Mae Ping Basin, the Mae Rim Basin, the Mae Kuang Basin, the Mae Khan Basin, the Mae Li Basin, the Mae Klang Basin, the Third Section of the Mae Ping Basin, the Upper Mae Chaem Basin, the Lower Mae Chaem Basin, the Mae Hat Basin, and the Mae Tuen Basin.

Lower Ping River Basin The river basin is divided into six sub-basins: the Ping River Basin Section 4, the Huai Mae Tho Basin, the Khlong Wang Chao Basin, the Khlong Mae Raka Basin, the Khlong Suan Mak Basin, and the Lower Ping River Basin.
